My family and I for Easter weekend went to Chicago for my sisters volleyball tournament, they placed 2nd in the Silver bracket and my sister played very good. I ate good food, saw new places, went shopping, hung out with friends, and watched my sister play. I loved this trip because I love traveling and I love going new places.
You probably know from my last post that I burned my chin on accident, and that has really made my week terrible. I am afraid it will scar and it won't go away as fast as I would like it to. I can't really do anything about it but I would like for myself to not be so clumsy! High school is going pretty well for me and I love the 9th grade campus. I see most of my friends, the campus is clean, all my teachers are nice and understanding, and I have really good classes. I hate school, but I love seeing my friends and seeing them everyday because in summer you don't get to see everyone.

If I could give this week a theme, I would label it stress and pain. On Sunday Night, I was straightening my hair and it slipped and came up onto my chin and burned my skin, which is very, very painful, so now I have a huge, embarrassing, red, scab on my face that could scar and possibly ruin the rest of my life.
I had a math quiz on Wednesday and I got an 80, but I was hoping for a 90 or 100, but I do not understand this topic very well. If I had to say what made my week bad, it would be the scab on my chin. I constantly feel like someone is pouring boiling water on my face, and it does not feel to great. It is also very noticeable and I barely want to leave my house until it is gone. In the book Life After Theft by Aprilynne Pike, the author uses foreshadowing to hint us of future events that are to occur. In the beginning of the book, a character, Kimberlee, is described as a dead ghost no one can see. When she was alive she was the queen bee, the rich girl, the pretty popular one, but she had one secret. Kimberlee stole everything important to anyone at her school. The reason Kimberlee is a ghost and cannot move onto the afterlife is because of her stealing habits, she cannot move on due to unfinished business on Earth.
Then we are introduced to Jeff, the new kid who just moved to California. On his first day, he sees Kimberlee but he has no clue she is dead, a ghost, he has no idea who she is, so when he first sees her and says hello, you can imagine Kimberlee is shocked since no one has been able to see her since her death. The author uses foreshadowing in this book by telling us about characters pasts and warning us of future events yet to come. She tells us information about characters that the other characters in the book are not aware of, this is also known as dramatic irony, which Pike uses many times in this book! When using a digital portfolio, you have many advantages and disadvantages that you will come to. They allow us to create, reflect, and analyze the learning of students. With digital portfolios, we can document our understandings, make revisions of our previous work, and celebrate others success.
A challenge I have with using digital portfolios is the reflection. Whatever you decide to write can be viewed by anyone from anywhere. When you upload an artifact, most of the time you should have a reflection with it, so uploading to my portfolio and writing the reflection is not exactly my cup of tea. Digital portfolios can be beyond beneficial to your academic career, especially for your future! They can display all the work I have uploaded through my educational career and helps to show others who view my portfolio how I have grown as a student. These portfolios help to demonstrate all your work you have done over the years and how doing this has made you grow. If I could change my layout of my digital portfolio, I would change the layout. I think the layout is very boring and bland, just all around basic. I would also update some of my older artifacts to show I have improved. Using the digital portfolio has taught me how to take any piece of work, place it into a category, and write a detailed reflection about it. I have grown as a student, and learned how to reflect on my own. This will help me in the future because I know how to create and run my very own digital portfolio! |
