Graffiti is a very controversial topic all around the world. Graffiti can produce beautiful artwork but on others property, which makes this a very black and white topic. In my opinion, graffiti is a type of art, but not a good kind. When you decide to spray paint on someone else property, you are saying you are willing to accept any consequence that comes with your action. Graffiti is gorgeous and no person has the ability to deny another of expressing themselves, but their is always a limit to someone's actions.
Graffiti is a kind of art, but it's also vandalism. For example, 2 men in California were arrested in the middle of spray painting a building at 2 am. They were charged with vandalism/ destruction of property. In conclusion, graffiti is art and a way to express yourself but it is also vandalism.

Recess is a disputed topic. When someone says the word "recess" a playground with elementary school kids running around comes to mind, right? Why do we only imagine elementary school kids? Most likely because the idea of recess for middle and high school kids has been disputed for years and years, but why don't the students have a vote in the topic?
It has been proven that whilst being at school for 8 hours, students need a break. Parents have reported that when their kids have recess, their kid has a better day and a positive attitude. Recess gives the kids a break to do whatever they feel they need and or want to do. Bills are trying to be passed that will guarantee kids have at least 15-20 minutes of recess. Another bill is being passed to prohibit teachers and or staff from retaining a child from recess due to behavior, grades, etc. In my opinion, technology has done nothing but improve our learning. Kids and teenagers and anyone of the coming generations adore technology, we revolve around it for our everyday life. Technology from a learning aspect has changed our daily basis greatly. We have access to articles, dictionaries, help to any question we have, access to anything we need.
For example, if we are doing a review for a class and its 10 o'clock at night, we can easily go on a phone, an Ipad, a laptop and look up any question we have. Another example is if we are doing a group project and need to talk to each other from home, we can create a group message to easily chat with each other about what needs to be done for the project and give help if needed. When you are asked this question, your answer is no right? The obvious answer is no, money can't buy happiness. Money is everything in this new world of ours we call Earth. Money cannot buy you happiness, money can buy you objects. Happiness comes from you, every person is different, different things make different people happy. When you find what makes you happy in this world, it's all you want to do. Whether it's sports, music, friends and family, traveling, happiness gives us something to look forward to, something to wake up for the next day, something to keep us going and give us an outlook as to what we want our future to be.
For example, say your a millionaire. You make 3.6 million dollars every year, you have everything, supposedly. You drive a Lamborghini and your wife drives a Jaguar. You have 3 healthy, happy kids who are living their best life, but are you happy? Do you like your job? Does your money give you everything you have ever wanted? Having that kind of money you can buy almost anything, a materialistic millionaire who isn't happy. Money cannot buy you happiness but you can buy objects to make you happy. Happiness is a feeling, almost a way of life, don't confuse it with something that can be bought, don't depreciate the value of happiness. In my opinion, I think technology is its advantages and its disadvantages. Technology has immensely shaped the world we live in today. Without technology we would not have the things that make up our everyday life like cars, computers, and Iphones. We would not be able to go the places we go, do the things we do, or talk to the people we talk to. Technology definitely has a huge advantage in our world today and will never stop growing, but with advantages there are always disadvantages.
Having things like laptops, Ipad, and Iphones have changed the lives over people all over the world. Social Media has raised the expectations for the coming generations of our future. Apps like Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat can all be found on an Iphone, but they are ruining lives daily. It is easier to say something hateful or rude when you are hiding behind a screen. Self esteem is on a constant roller coaster going up when you get a comment from your friend saying "pretty" and you reached 400 likes including the guy you like, but going down when you don't get the comment or 400 likes and you feel worthless. Technology has changed the world we live in, but maybe it's not for the better. In conclusion, I do think technology has made us more alone. I think technology has made us all more self- absorbed, alone human beings who want to be just as good as the next girl. I believe that the school day if anything should start earlier. Right now, we begin school at 8:20 and get out at 3:35. In elementary school, we began at 7:50 and got out at 2:50, and I favored those times. You were up early to get the day started and when you got out of school you still had enough time to do the things you want/needed to do. Things such as sports, lessons, homework, charity, etc.
Mckamy Middle School now starts at 9 but does not get out until 4:15. With this, they do not have as much time to do things like sports and homework which causes later nights and less sleep which is not good for mental or physical health. In conclusion, I think that starting and getting out earlier is all around better for time, activity, and health wise. You may be reading this and thinking what is the point. Dreams are only what we want but can never have, that is why they happen in your sleep. Maybe some of your dreams like living in the ocean, breathing underwater, being able to fly, have lighting speed, are impossible, but the other ones are achievable. Dreams are what give us hope for the future. Everyone has dreams, whether you want to admit it or not. We all want something for our future, we just have to make it happen.
My dad had a dream. He wanted to be a successful business man. So out of college he worked for Bank of America and traveled to world building the company into an empire. After he made his impact on the company, he quit and took on his dream and ran with it. Him and his best friend franchised Fuzzy's Taco Shop and now have 12 restaurants and there are more to come. My dad worked and worked from the day he graduated to build himself into a man who went from traveling all over the globe to build an empire, into owning 12 restaurants, all the while providing for my mom, sister, and I. My dad had a dream, so he worked for it to achieve, now look where he is. My dad is the perfect example to of what a dream can do. My family and I for Easter weekend went to Chicago for my sisters volleyball tournament, they placed 2nd in the Silver bracket and my sister played very good. I ate good food, saw new places, went shopping, hung out with friends, and watched my sister play. I loved this trip because I love traveling and I love going new places.
You probably know from my last post that I burned my chin on accident, and that has really made my week terrible. I am afraid it will scar and it won't go away as fast as I would like it to. I can't really do anything about it but I would like for myself to not be so clumsy! High school is going pretty well for me and I love the 9th grade campus. I see most of my friends, the campus is clean, all my teachers are nice and understanding, and I have really good classes. I hate school, but I love seeing my friends and seeing them everyday because in summer you don't get to see everyone. If I could give this week a theme, I would label it stress and pain. On Sunday Night, I was straightening my hair and it slipped and came up onto my chin and burned my skin, which is very, very painful, so now I have a huge, embarrassing, red, scab on my face that could scar and possibly ruin the rest of my life.
I had a math quiz on Wednesday and I got an 80, but I was hoping for a 90 or 100, but I do not understand this topic very well. If I had to say what made my week bad, it would be the scab on my chin. I constantly feel like someone is pouring boiling water on my face, and it does not feel to great. It is also very noticeable and I barely want to leave my house until it is gone. In the book Life After Theft by Aprilynne Pike, the author uses foreshadowing to hint us of future events that are to occur. In the beginning of the book, a character, Kimberlee, is described as a dead ghost no one can see. When she was alive she was the queen bee, the rich girl, the pretty popular one, but she had one secret. Kimberlee stole everything important to anyone at her school. The reason Kimberlee is a ghost and cannot move onto the afterlife is because of her stealing habits, she cannot move on due to unfinished business on Earth.
Then we are introduced to Jeff, the new kid who just moved to California. On his first day, he sees Kimberlee but he has no clue she is dead, a ghost, he has no idea who she is, so when he first sees her and says hello, you can imagine Kimberlee is shocked since no one has been able to see her since her death. The author uses foreshadowing in this book by telling us about characters pasts and warning us of future events yet to come. She tells us information about characters that the other characters in the book are not aware of, this is also known as dramatic irony, which Pike uses many times in this book! |
